Information Management Framework

Should provide emphasis on information management, which will define projects and activities required to ensure successful implementation of policies, standards and best practices required to ensure accountability for the quality of information used for management and business intelligence purposes
Data Warehouse Architecture
  • Should provide focus on data architecture opportunities and the rationale for recommendations to improve service;
  • Should provide focus on data integration opportunities and the rationale for recommendations to improve service;

  • Should consider the establishment of a structure and design i.e. Data Architecture, center of excellence to provide focus on  data modeling and project deliverables that flow from data modeling activities;
  • Should consider the establishment of a database management  discipline to provide  focus on the management of persistent data stores;
  • Should consider the establishment of a data integration discipline to provide focus on the movement of data between systems; and
  • Should consider the establishment of an information delivery discipline to provide direction on business intelligence and analytics including business intelligence architecture, data analysis, end-user customizable reports, online analytic processing and data mining.
Data Governance
  • Should identify Information Technology and business area representation e.g. data guardians or owners, and data stewards,  by operational function and recommend an organization that can bring them together to properly address data governance issues;
  • Should provide emphasis on data governance, which will define projects and activities required to ensure establish data governance and data stewardship processes required to ensure data quality; and
  • Should provide emphasis on metadata, which will define projects and activities required to ensure successful implementation of a metadata management process required to support information management and business intelligence.

Should provide emphasis on data warehouse and business intelligence requirements, which will establish projects and activities required to allow the organization to be successful in this critical area of delivering information to end-users.

Program Charter
  • Should build on the findings from the assessment efforts;

  • Should involve analysis of the data architecture, data integration architecture and information delivery opportunities;

  • Should involve analysis of the data warehouse management and information management methodology opportunities;
  • Should involve analysis of the information management; methodology and data governance strategy opportunities
  • Should involve analysis of the business case;
  • Should define Business Intelligence vision;
  • Should define the plan to bridge the gap from the current state to the desired vision; and
  • Should focus on six key areas e.g. information management, data warehouse architecture, methodology, roles and responsibilities, data governance and business intelligence initiatives.
Project Charters
  • Should include project charters for agreed projects described in the Program Charter;

  • Should specify foundational initiative charters, which include activities such as organizational adjustments, training, data stewardship and data governance activities needed to support Information Management or Business Intelligence programs, yet may not fall into a traditional project scope;

  • Should specify strategic project charters, which include projects that provide solutions to one or more of the Information Management and/or Business Intelligence business needs identified in the Program Charter; and

  • Should specify tactical project charters, which define projects aimed at satisfying short term critical business needs that must be addressed immediately.
