Information Management Career

• A project manager has a pivotal information management job, and is responsible for project planning, obtaining appropriate resources and for status reporting to the sponsor and other external stakeholders; 

• A data architect, acting as technical lead, frequently performs the role of project manager and is responsible for overall design, development and successful implementation; and

• A project administrator is frequently assigned to help the project manager with project coordination activities.

• Technical writer jobs are sometimes created for technical writers to create specialized user guides and technical documentation.

• Data modeler jobs require data modelers responsible for analyzing data requirement and documenting these requirements in the form of data models and capable of creating physical database design specifications;

• Data analyst jobs are staffed with a business systems analyst responsible for analyzing source data quality and for developing source to target mapping documents (including data business transformation rules);

• Business intelligence jobs are staffed by a business intelligence analyst, responsible for defining functional, analytical reporting and decision-making requirements and for documenting these in the requirements document;

• A data steward is responsible for data requirements, standards, access rules, and business training; and

• A business systems analyst, or systems analyst, is usually tasked with overall responsibility for creating the requirements document and for requirements traceability.

• Data architect jobs are staffed with data architects who have overall responsibility for architecture and design, development, testing and project implementation; and

• Software engineering jobs are staffed by data movement designers  and lead developers responsible for the overall design of the data movement (extract, transform and load) solution. This includes producing all design deliverables and for leading integration testing.

• Database administrator jobs are staffed by database administrator  (DBA) specialists who are  responsible for creating all development/test database environments and for building the development/test databases;

• A data warehouse developer is usually responsible for developing data warehouse load software and for development work involving SQL and database stored procedures;

• Software development jobs are staffed by IT professionals with specialized experience as an ETL developer, e.g. informatica developer and lead developer, responsible for developing, and unit testing, data movement software. These developer jobs are frequently specific for data movement tools such as Ab Initio and Informatica; and

• A business intelligence/reporting/designer/developer is responsible for designing, developing and unit testing, all BI reporting components.

• Many members of the information management project team are required for software testing jobs;

• The QA test lead is responsible for overall software testing the entire solution to ensure that it is ready for user acceptance testing; and

• The software tester is responsible for creating QA test cases/test steps, documenting test results, and identifying QA test defects.

• A change manger has overall responsible for any change impacting the production environment;

• A release manager is responsible for managing the release implementation process;

• Configuration management jobs are staffed with specialists who are required to manage and control the configuration items that are being introduced into the production environment; and

• Production support specialist jobs are required to maintain the solution after it has been released to production
