Management roles
  • Business owner and sponsor is responsible for the quality of user input and for resolving business issues. Frequently this role is considered the business project manager.
  • Information systems management (director, project manger, systems manager, technical services manager, etc) is responsible for approving the project scope, technical feasibility adherence to enterprise information management standards.
  • A project manager, project leader or senior analyst is responsible for all application development work. This includes project planning and control, project execution, obtaining appropriate sign-off's, keeping all stakeholders apprised of status and managing the project team (including any users directly involved).
This role also includes defining the project quality assurance plan and for ensuring the quality of all project deliverables.

The project manager is also expected to provide technical direction to the project team.
  • A project administrator is frequently assigned to help the project manager with project coordination activities.
  • A change manger has overall responsible for any change impacting the production environment. Frequently, the project manager acts as change manager.
Analysis management information systems jobs
  • A business systems analyst, systems analyst or data modeler is usually tasked with overall responsibility for creating the requirements document and for requirements traceability. This is one of the key management information systems jobs as this role also helps define "how" a system should be implemented. The analyst is involved during quality assurance and user acceptance testing and also supports the user during documentation,and training and transition to production.
A business systems analyst/data modeler is also responsible for creating entity relationship diagrams, business models and  business function hierarchy and process models.

Design and development
  • A systems designer is responsible for identifying and resolving design issues during the project and for producing all design specifications including database design specifications.
This role specifies "how" the requirement will be met and requires close collaboration with the business systems analyst and data modeler.
  • A developer, programmer, senior programmer or programmer analyst is responsible for module design, coding, unit testing, program documentation, providing assistance during system and integration testing and defect resolution.
  • Technical writers are sometimes created for technical writers to create specialized user guides and technical documentation.
  • A database developer is usually responsible for any type of development work involving data access layer development including creating SQ queries and and database stored procedures;
  • Project database administrators are staffed by specialists who are  responsible for creating all development and test database environments and for building the development/test databases.
The project database administrator is also responsible for maintaining user access to all development environments including any project related repositories such as data model repositories and project documentation repositories.

Quality assurance management information system jobs
  • A quality assurance test lead is responsible for creating the test plan and for overall testing the entire solution to ensure that it is ready for user acceptance testing; and
  • A software tester is responsible for creating QA test cases/test steps, documenting test results, and identifying QA test defects.
Production support management information system jobs
  • A release manager is responsible for managing the release implementation process. This role is normally staffed by someone from the production support team.
  • Configuration management jobs are staffed with specialists who are required to manage and control the configuration items that are being introduced into the production environment.
  • Production support specialist jobs are required to maintain the solution after it has been released to production. They are also involved with executing tests in the quality assurance and user test environments.
  • Network administrators are responsible for identifying network architecture in terms of nodes, processors, security configuration, etc
